This course will guide occupational therapy Practitioners in assessing fine motor skills by focusing on five often-overlooked areas that provide critical insights into a student's needs and strengths. Participants will learn how to incorporate these key areas into evaluations and reports to better inform intervention strategies.
Practical techniques for gathering and applying this information will be shared, empowering OTPs to enhance their assessments. The one-hour presentation offers actionable steps to improve understanding and support of students in school settings.
Learning Objectives
1. Identify five essential areas to include in an evaluation that are often overlooked in assessing fine motor skills.
2. Describe practical techniques for collecting relevant information during the evaluation process.
3. Distinguish between motor-based challenges and learning-based challenges when interpreting handwriting outcomes.

Your Instructor
Marie Frank, OTR/L & Monica Fortunato, OTR/L
Marie Frank OTR/L received a certification of second major in occupational therapy from the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul Minnesota in 1996. She has enjoyed working in public school systems ages birth to 21, clinical pediatric settings, and a regional pediatric treatment center.
Marie has taught as an adjunct staff member at the College of St. Scholastica and provided clinical supervision to students. She has mentored occupational therapists in school settings. She worked with very young children and their amazing parents in Maplewood Minnesota and has recently retired and has dedicated her time exclusively to Schoodles.
Monica Fortunato, OTR/L
Monica Fortunato OTR/L received her degree in occupational therapy from the College of St Catherine in St. Paul Minnesota in 1983. She has worked in a variety of settings including psychiatric inpatient and community outreach. She currently provides occupational therapy to children in the charter schools of Los Angeles.
Monica is Level 1 certified by Handwriting Without Tears and has created handwriting programs that have been featured in the Los Angeles Times and on BBC radio. She has mentored occupational therapists in school settings and is a USC-certified Sensory Integration therapist. Monica is also the artist/creator of the Captain Penguino story and Legibility Program.

This is an Intermediate level course intended for occupational therapy practitioners working in school systems or with a goal to better understand occupational therapy in school systems
Course Completion Requirements
To receive a certificate for this course, you must watch the recorded course in its entirety. Then, you will need to take a learning assessment test and earn a score 75% or higher. If you pass, a certificate will be automatically generated and sent to your email.
